Withdrawal of Physician Services During Job Action
The Council of the College has approved amendments to the Policy: Withdrawal of Physician Services During Job Action in principle for the purpose of consultation.
The Council directed that the proposed policy be circulated to physicians and placed on the website to seek feedback. The Council will consider the feedback it receives when it considers the Guideline at its November meeting.
The document is a policy. The College has accepted the following statement in relation to policies:
Policies contain requirements set by the Council of the College to supplement the Act and Bylaws. Policies are formal positions of the College in relation to defined areas of practice with which members must comply. The Council also sets policies on registration, administration, and governance of the College.
The College has had a Policy Withdrawal of Physician Services During Job Action since 1999. It sets out the College’s guidance on what the Council considers physicians should do if one or more physicians are considering taking job action arising from concerns about the conditions of practice, payment for services provided, etc.
At its September meeting, the Council considered a report from the committee which reviewed the existing document and recommended some changes. The work of the committee included reviewing the documents from various Canadian Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons, including

The Council anticipates that it will consider feedback from
stakeholders, including members of the profession, at its meeting on November
25 and 26. The Council would like to hear from you! If you have concerns with the proposed policy,
it would be helpful if you explain the reasons for those concerns.
How to Respond
In order for the College to consider feedback and correlate feedback for the Council in time for the next Council meeting, all feedback should be provided to the College no later than Friday, November 4, 2022.
