Medical Practice Coverage
The Council of the College has approved in principle an updated policy “Medical Practice Coverage".
Given the broad scope of the amendments proposed to this policy, the Council directed that the proposed amended policy be widely circulated to physicians, health care organizations and the public to seek feedback.
This policy addresses the
College’s expectations of all physicians involved in direct patient care
regarding physician availability and after-hours coverage. The policy has been amended to include
expectations regarding office phone requirements, the use of voicemail and
email, after-hour management of test results, availability to respond to
after-hour inquiries from other health-care providers, coordinating coverage
for temporary absences from practice, and practice coverage during office hours
when unable to accommodate access.
The Council anticipates

profession, at its meeting in January 2021. The Council would like
to hear from you! If you have concerns
with the proposed policy, it would be helpful if you explain the reasons for
