Informed Consent

What is consent?

Consent for a treatment or procedure involves an explanation of the rationale for that treatment, alternatives, and the potential risks, which includes the most serious and the most common complications or side effects.  Your understanding of the explanation and your agreement are a part of the consent.  This process is explained more fully in the following CMPA document: Consent.
